Program Highlights-- GFDW Fall Meeting, Clayton State University, October 6, 2007

There were so many participants that we can't list them all, but here's an overview. Gail Buckner was the event chairman. An inspirational message and welcome by the Hon. Erica Davis, Chair of Clayton County School Board, got us off to an enthusiastic start. Betty Pearsall, of Houston County, delivered the invocation. Morrow High School ROTC did a great job of Presentation of Colors, with pledge led by Hon. Mike Glanton, Dist. 76. Welcome by Kathy Bird, GFDW lst vice-president, Houston County. A welcome pep-talk by Jane Kidd, chair of Democratic Party of Georgia. Hon. Virginia Gray, on behalf of the Clayton County Board of Commissioners, presented a proclamation recognizing the occasion. Everyone enjoyed a film about Georgia's Former First Ladies...Karin Barber, of Fayette County, introduced Nellie Duke, chair of Georgia Commission on Women. Former first lady of Georgia Betty Vandiver was honored with an engraved vase. Beth Perera, Houston County, was honored as Businesswoman of the Year. District Director pins were presented.
After a break, the meeting resumed with brief talks and a Q & A period with two senatorial candidates, Dale Cardwell and Rand Knight. The forum was conducted by Page Gleason, Tiffany Horne, and Catherine Smith. The meeting concluded with a drawing for door prizes and claims being made for numerous Silent Auction items.

The GFDW Spring meeting will be hosted by Middle Georgia Democratic Women (Houston County and surrounding area) and Kristina "Tina" Simms will be the chair. Saturday March 1, 2008, place TBA. MGDWC must work around the (congratulations!) fact that Beth Perera, one of our key members, will be in London (she won the trip!) and other points of interest in the spring.
